PROPOSED BRIDGE OVER THE AVON.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PBESS. Sib, —I would take it kind if you would allow mc to endorse the remarks made by Mr Albert Cuff, a few days since, in refer* ence to the bridge proposed to be erected over the Avon by Ward's Brewery. I assure you, Mr Editor, that I for one find it quite hard enough to bear the present burdensome taxation, and I know of others who feel it ten times worse than I do, and as a citizen who has resided hero over v twenty years, I object to being further taxed to erect a bridge that will lead to " nowhere"—as there is not a shop, a pub, or store within cooey of it. I am surprised that a deputation of citizens have not waited on his Worship the Mayor before this, and entered a protest against such a farce.
If our Mayor wishes to have hie name handed down to posterity let him erect « sun dial, or better still a clock tower, in that particular locality, as it would prove very handy for timing the boating men when trying to beat the record, which the ever-present City Council are certainly endeavoring to do now, in the shape of reckless expenditure, as the bridge already erected is more than equal to present requirement* •—Yours, &c. PoKTB DEL SOSPIBO.
