NEW ZEALAND BRASS BAND ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the recently formed New Zealand Brass and Military Band Association was held on Saturday evening at the Wellington Hotel, when the following Bands were represented :—-ChristchnrcK Garrison, Sydenham, Addington, Stanmore, Lytteiton, lmpey's Band (Auckland), City Band (Wellington), Garrison and City (InvercargiU), Garrison, Kaikorai and Engineers (Dunedin), and the Waimate ana Balclutha Bands, while proxies for several other Bands were reed by the Secretary (Mr Manaell). Mr W. P. McLean, Vice-President of the Association, occupied the chair, and in a few words stated the object of the meeting, and on behalf of the Executive welcomed the visiting delegates. Correspondence was read from the various bands affiliated in reference to holding a contest. After some discussion on the matter, on the motion of Mr Caddie, seconded by Mr Lane, it was decided that the first contest under the auspices of the Association be held In Danedin during the last week of November, and' that, the next general meeting take place at Oamaru during the Volunteer encampment, when details in connection with the contest would be arranged and officers elected. The applications of several bands for affiliation were granted, making the total number of bands affiliated twenty-four. A former resolution fixing the entrance fee at £3 3s for bands who had not joined'the Association previous to September last was reecinded, and the entrance fee fixed at £1. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr McKillop, to send at once to Messrs Wricht and Bound, of the Liverpool Braes Band Journal, for a test piece suitable for the contest, and it was also resolved to ask the Dunedin bands to work up matters in connection with the contest. The meeting expressed their pleasure at the interest taken in the Association by the representatives of (;be southern bands, namely, Mr Lane <Oamaru), Mr A. Caddie (Dunedin), and Mr B. Galbraith (Invercargill). After some formal business had been disposed of votes of thanks were parsed to the Chairman and Mr Fachs and the proceedings terminated.
