. Messrs Balfour, Guthrie and Co. report under date San Francisco, 9th January, as follows :— Oar last was dated 12th ult. The stringency in the money market has in the interval had a depressing influence on all btisiuess, usually more or less dull at tbis season under the best conditions. Export business, however, continues fairly active, under the influence of comparatively good foreign wheat markets. Wheat—The market has an upward tendency. We quote Idol 37_c to Idol 40c percental f.o.b. Freights to the United Kingdom are Arm under a light spot supply, and we quote iron tonnage at 433 9d for orders, aud for early arrival 40s to 41s Sd for orders at Portland or at Tacouma, Wash. There is no disengaged tonnage, and we quote 47s 6d and 45s nominally, respectively, and 45s and 42s 6d for near ai rival, iron vessel, for orders. Exchange during the past week has materially improved, We quote Bankers' 60 days' sight bills on London at 4dol B__c, merchants' 60 days' sight hills on London at 4dol 81_c, merchants' 60 days' sight on Sydney at 4dol 60c.
