Present—His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), and Messrs M. murphy, J. C. Prudhoe, G. Booth (Mayor of Sydenham). An apology was received for the absence of Mr C. Louisson. The Inspector reported that daring the month of January he had visited Heathcote, Woolaton, St. Albans, Linwood, and Sydenham. He had also been to Springfield. Ashburton, and Templeton, and on market days had attended the market in Christchurch. He had made inquiries into some complaints which had been received, but although demanding a caution, which he had given,' none of the cases called for prosecution. During the month seventeen cautions were given, for cruelty to horses and cows, for keeping a cow (which Bad since been killed and buried) suffering from cancer, for catching cats iv a trap. Forty horses were examined for sores during the month. The report was received. The Inspector read the minutes of the last meeting of the Ladies Committee, at which Mrs Julius presided, held' on January 9th. A discussion took place regarding* the prize essays for children, ana it was agreed to send circulars concerning the essays to clergymen. They approved of Mr Parker's resolutions relating to slaughteryards, Mr Surra reported having received the eighth annual report of the Otago Society. A number of letters were read and dealt with. The Inspector reported that the credit balance in the Bank was £14 Is 4d; that accounts had been passed for payment amounting to £13, and that one or two others had since accrued. Mr M.
