ROAD BOARDS

WAIPARA. The monthly meeting of this Board wa* held ou February 3rd. Present—Messr 3 J. £>. Lance (Chairman), J as. Douglas, J. H. Hall, and G. D. Greenwood. Tho following correspondence was read :— From tho Rev. James McKellar, calling attention of the Board to a caso of destitution, and request*-*;, that application be made to the Charitable Aid Board foi relief. The Board agreed to make the application being conversant with the case. From W. H. Burton, askiag permission to remove a gateway on the Scargili road. Application granted. From James Gibbs, asking that a road to hia property be formed. Resolved that the work bo done. From the Masterton Borough Council, euclosing petitions re Charitable Boards. Resolved that the petitions be signed. The Engineer's report was then read and considered. Permission was granted to Murdoch McKay to erect a gateway on the Bluit* road near the old police station on tho eastern side. Daniel Horgan, Ranger, waited ou the Board complaining of a case of rescue of cattle, and asking the Board's advice. The Board considered that.Horgan should take immediate proceeding*. The Engl neer was instructed to prepare nn estimate for replacing certain bridges with stove. The tender of M. Sklark lor dog collars was accepted, price for different sizes being 6_d, t s_d and sd. Accounts amounting to £155 7s Id were passed for payment, leaving a debit balance of £20 1_? sd. The Board then adjourned.

EYRETON. The monthly meeting was held on Feb ruary 2nd. Present —Messrs Evans (Chair* man), Hopklus and Pashby. Letters were read—From Property Tax Commissioner, stating a voucher tor £216 lis 7d, being 75 per cent, of the subsidy on rates for 1890-91, had been forwarded to thb Treasury for payment. PaymasterGeneral, stating the above had been paid to the credit ot the Board at tho Bank ol New Zealand, Kaiapoi. The Manager Bank of New Zealand, Kaiapoi, acknowledging receipt of same. Mund.ville and Rangiora River Board, suggesting that tbree new piles under the centre span of the bridge over the No. 1 drain, with new bearers for the short span at the eastern end, and some new planks would meet all requirements for some time to come. The Clerk was directed to reply that the cost of carrying out the above suggestion would be better expanded in a new top structure. Waimakarlri Harbor Board, reminding the Board that the election of two members to represent this district would have to be held ou the second Monday in February. The Clerk stated that Messrs Evans and Moore were the only persona nominated aud declared duly elected. The Under-Secretary for the Department of Justice, re election of Licensing Com* mittees. The Seiwyn County Council, acknowledging the receipt of this Board's letter of January 7th' re planking of White's bridge, stating the suggestions made by this Board would be carried out as far as practicable. A petition waa presented by Messrs Patchett and Christmas, signed by fifteen residents along the Ohoka creek, complaining of the polluting of the water in the creek as at present, and of the stench arising from tho same as being a nuisance, itesolved—-That Messrs H. Clarke and J.. H. Barker be requested to abate the nuisance at once. Mr McDavitt requested, the Board to allow extra payment on. his contract ios deepening Inglefield creek, and was informed the Board could not comply with his request. The Rate Collector was directed to summon defaulting ratepayers, commencing wich the largest amounts, in alphabetical order. The tender of James Power, £910s, for ford on Ashworth's road was uccepted. The pay-sheet, amounting to £83 5s 9d was passed for payment, oi__ the Board adjourned.

OXFORD.

This Board held their ordinary meeting on tbe 4th inst. Present —Messrs A. Wright (Chairman), Peter Wright, a_Dobson. The Surveyar reported that the money voted for the destruction of small birds was exhausted, aud the Board voted a further aura, of £5. Fences on einbaukments on View Hill road were broken. Surveyor to have them repaired. Tho Chairman of the West Oxford School Committee asked permission to cart-earth from the Main Bush road. The Surveyor expected to complete survey of the Waimakuriri water-race in about a fortnight., and will produce plans an<_ estimates aw an early date. A report was received from the Water-race Ranger, containing the names of per.ous guilty of diverting and wasting water., Surveyor to take legal proceedings against ofl'enuers atouce. A letter was received from the Oxford. Domain Bourd, enclosing account for fencing and painting. Letter to b** acknowledged and account paid. From. Messrs Crowe and.
