The attention of the Members and the General Public is called to some of the special features connected with this Society, which is the Oldest Colonia luntituLion of its kind, having been lestablished in the year 1849 The results of the business for the Forty-first Year, ending 31st December, 889, may be summarised as under :— FIRST—The number of the New Policies issued was 11,664. SECOND—The New Assurance Business effected was for L 3,679,459. THD3D—The New Annual Premium Income amounted to L 121,800, FOURTH—The net increase to the business, after allowing tor loss of income from terminated policies, was represented by 7028 Policies, assuring L 2,109,199. "FIFTH—The operations bf the year raised the annual income of the Society from L 1.512,280 to L1,625,185L an increase in twelve months 01 11112,905, SIXTH—The Accumulated Fund was increased durin the year by the sum of L 742.311, equal to 7 per cent, of the gross premium re. I ceived. SEVENTH—The deaths among lives assured were 649 under 785 policies, causing claims upon the society amounting to L 299.602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143 for an amount of L 458,976, the mor tality experience beinft thus extremely favorable. EIGHTH—The receipts from Interest and rents were L516,832> an amount exceeding the sum paid for the claims by L 138.95---2 expenses of Management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total i receipts. TENTH—The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was L 426.494, being at the rate of 41.5 per cent, on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the forty-one years of its existence may be summarised aa under:— . It has divided among the members cash bonuses aggregating over L 4,000,000, yielding reversionary additions of over L 8,000,000.
