(HUMS JUBSOCIATKBf TELSSBAMS). AUCKLAND, February 9. To-day Mr Sydney Nathan, brother of Hr A. H. Nathan, the well known merchant, was married, at the Jewish Synagogue, to Miss Baume, sister of Mr F*. Baume, barrister, and niece of Mr Ehreafried.

The cargo of the ship Leading Wind is t being discharged at the Queen street jetty. Much of the flax coming from the lower forehold is badly burnt and charred. A lot of the flax discharged is charred black on the outside, but when the bales are opened ont it is found that the centres of the packages are intact and uninjured by fire. The ship is to be docked after the cargo is discharged.

Three conductors on the city tram were each fined 10s and costs, at the police court, for allowing cars to be overcrowded. At a meeting of the creditors of G. H. Hulme, butcher, who recently filed a petition of insolvency, a motion of sympathy was passed, and the Official Assignee was requested to facilitate his discharge. The debtor's liabilities amount to £1800. A boy of thirteen, Michael Tobin, recently remanded on a charge of stealing tobacco, was sentenced for that offence to receive twelve strokes of a birch rod and -was fined 40s and costs, with an alternative of fourteen days , imprisonment. At a meeting of sawmillers yesterday a Resolution was passed that it is desirable t» approach the Minister for Public Works with a view of inducing him to encourage local industry by using totara timber only for renewing bridges and culverts on the railway lines instead of importing Australian timber for that purpose. A burglary was committed last night at the store of Mr Lewis Chittenden. A window was taken ontof the building, where the thief is supposed to have entered, and the safe was cut open with a cold chisel and £22 abstracted.

TIMARU, February 3. Mr Hutchison's 10-ton yacht Gcwan arrived here last night from Lyttelton. She had to run back to Akaroa, and on Sunday night was in a hard south-easter, and Mr Mortimer and his companion had a rough tune.' ■
