The attention of the Members and the General Public ia called to some of the special features connected with this Society, which ia the Oldest Colonia Institution of its kind, having been leetablished in the year 1819 V The results of tbe buelne.se for the Forty-first Year, ending Blat December, £89, may be summarised as under :— FIRST—The number of the New Policies issued was 11,664. SECOND—The New Assurance Business effected was for L 3,679,459. THIRD—The New Annual Premium Income amounted to L 121,800, FOURTH—The neb increase to the business, after allowing for lose of income from terminated policies, was represented by 7028 Policies, assuring L 2,109,199. "FIFTH—The operations of the year raised the annnal income of the Society from 11512,280 to 10,625,185, an increase In twelve months ot L112,9G6 ( SIXTH—The Accumulated Fund was increased durin the year by the sum of L 742,311, equal to 7 per cent, of the gro*a premium re. celved. SEVENTH—The deaths among lives assured were 619 under 735 policies, causing claims upon the Society amounting co L 299.602, irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number expected according to the Tables used in estimating the liabilities would have been 1143 for an amount of £438,076, the mar . tality experience being thus extremely favorable. BIGHTH—The receipts from interest and rents were L 516,83& an amount exceeding the sum p»id for the claims by 11138,952. : NINTH—The expenses of Management 'wereonly 9.5 per cent, of the total? receipts. TENTH—The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was L 426,494, being' at the rate of 4U> per cent.- on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during 4ne forty-one years of its existence may be' summarised as under:— It has Issued 14L907 policies, *ssoring 1i49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives of deceased members over L40Q0.000 in satisfaction of death and matured claims. Iti has divided among the members cash bonuses aggregating over LiOOO,GOQ, yielding reversionary additions of over L 8,000,000.
