The urinal has been removed from 'k Gloucester street, opposite the Theatre, i and placed for safe keeping in the Council ff yard. This summer the water supply In gf the street posts has been decreasing in '% quantity, which I suppose is owing to the i very noticeable absence of rain for the I last two years. The gorse and other un- 1 dergrowth round the Cemetery, the Hos- 1 pital reserve, and the night soil reserve, 1 nas been grubbed up and cleared away on I a width of half a chain. A stone apron I has been constructed from the Antigua 1 street sewer to the river, which it is | noped will prevent, for the future, any I smell arising from the sewer at the river § side. An estimate is attached hereto, £ showing what it would cost to regrade, g channel and asphalt Moa place and New 1 street." , 1 The estimate for Moa Place was £818s, I and for New street £162 16a. | Cr. Paudhoe said that at the present | time for want of funds the Council could f not carry out the work, but they % would not lose sight of the matter and f perhaps next year they would be able to 2 put this work on the estimates. , ' After some further discussion the 1 matter of New street and Moa Place was I left in the hands of the Works Committee » and the report as a whole adopted. '. The report of the By-Luwtj Committee j was read aa under: —" Your Committee has considered the application of the Cabmens' Union for a reduction of the cabowner's license fee, but cannot recommend the Council to grant it under Its present financial condition. A month's grace has been allowed, and every publicity has, been given of the Council's intention to take action if the licenses were not taken out by tvs 31st January. As there are a large number of licenses not taken up your Committee recommends that summoas be issued Iα batches against all defaulters." , : The report was adopted. In reply to Cr.
