At a meeting , of the creditors in the bankrupt estate -of Garrett Brothers, the question was raised as to wnether the executors undqf the will of the late R. Garrett, a former partner, had a right to vote in regard to the disposal of the estate. The meeting waa adjourned in order that legal opinion might be obtained on the matter. The Chief Justice of Samoa waa landed from the Alameda at Apia, the vessel calling there for the purpose. WELLINGTON, January 5. Te Kooti and his followers, after spending Christmas and New Year with the Wairarapa Natives, have left for tbeir homee again. The visit has been an uneventful one, and Europeans and Natives' have taken little or no interest in it. A singular mortality amongst horses has occurred in the Wairarapa district during the past few weeks. The disease appears to be infectious, but is unknown to veterinary experts. Two prominent residents of Auckland have been requested by the Government to investigate the charges preferred against Dr. Collins, of the Hospital, by exnurse Arnaboldi, and it is expected that both will consent to act. A chemist at Palmerston North named Williams, was found dead in bed yesterday. As he was known to be in the habit of taking morphia it is supposed this had something to do with it. By the re-valuation of selections in Otago for a year, under the Selectors' Be-Valuation Act, the capital value of 434 holdings in Crown lands was reduced from .£165,134 to £96.085. Mr Henry Manders, the former repre eentative for Lake Wakatipu in Parliament, died suddenly this morning.
