The above Club brought off a meeting yesterday on their course at New Brighton in fine weather. The attendance was small, and betting was limited, the bustness baing confined to a few pencillers, who paid, the Club a fee for the privilege of betting in the absence of a totalisator. Five first, one second, and one third favorite got home during the afternoon, and the layers of the odds did not fare i over well. The Club will probably lose a j little Over the meeting, but the Stewards, on the whole, expressed themselves fairly well satisfied with the departure made. i The races were got off in good time; i indeed, visitors were back to town at 6 o'clock. Bur wood led to the top of the straight, when Mignonette challenged bim and he bro&e. Then fijigoonette led till well up the home stretch, but Burwood getting the best of the track overhauled the. mare, neck by neck, aud won an exciting race by a length. Time, 6mln 14sec. Bettiug—_ to 4on Alma, 3 to 1 Adam, 4 to 1 Faveaux, 5 to 1 Charlie and Colombo. Adam and Lena collided soon after the start/ thereby causing Alma to lose ground. A good finish ended In favor of Faveaux by three lengths. No time given.
