Meyers, Secretary) tor week ending Friday, the sth December :— very little business has transpired <iar> tag the week, the near approach of the elections disturbing to &T certain extent producers aad merchants alike. The weather stul continues dry, and reports reach «s of oats as being already in ear in some places where the straw is bat e> few Inches high. Wheat is in few hands, and transactions are consequently limited. Oats—The same dullness prevails owing to the outside markets showing no improvement. Beans and Peas—But few sales have taken place. Dairy Produce— A fair enquiry exists for really prime keg butter, but second quality and paatry sorts are entirely neglected. Quotations are as follows :— Wheat—Tuscan 3s 5d to 3a 6d, Pearl 8s id to 3s sd, Hunter's 3s 3d to 8s id. Oats-MlHing U 7d, bright abort feed Is 6d, inferior Is'id to la id. Barlej—Nominal for malting, feed 1* 6d to 1$ Sd.

Beans and peas, 2s 6d for the former, 2s 3d to 2s 4d tor the latter.

Dairy Produce—Potted butter, OJd to 7d; cheese, large site 3d to 3jd, small loaf shape «d, The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery towb. Lyttelton, sacks extra.

Holders generally are confident of their position, but in the absence of orders for Immediate delivery buyers are not keen. Tuscan, 3s 6d, 3s 6d; velvet or pearl, 8s 4d; Hunter's, 8s 3d. Oats.—The improvement referred to Iα our last is more generally apparent, and coupled with the dry weather is tending to enhance values. Prime milling. Is 7d; short feed, Iβ Qd ; duns, Is Od. Iβ Tα. Barley.— There Iβ little or nothing doing. Cheese.—New Is coming forward, and the market indications are more favorable than last season. Small lots have found buyers at 4d to 4^3. Butter.—Prime fresh, 6d to 7d.

Wool—During the week the cables from London have been of an unsatisfactory tenor, though the most recent ones report an improved tone and a slight advance in prices for superior merino, both greasy and acoured. The first sale of'the season at Ashburton was held on 4th inst, when catalogues comprising 1600 bales were offered to a small attendance of buyers. Prices, however, were very satisfactory and a good clearance was effected. In conjunction with Mr J. G. Bestell we submitted a small catalogue, our range of yalues being:—Crossbred o£d to 9£d, threequarterbred 7d to 7£d, merino 7d to7£d, pieces and locks 2d to 6|d. Hides—A moderate demand at recently quoted list prices. Tallow and Fat—Values are without alteration.

Sheepskins—Moderate catalogues came forward to auction this week. The attendance was limited, but competition was brisk, and in sume cases prices exceeded those ot the previous week. Butchera , best crossbred brought 59 6d to 63 9d; ordinary, 3s 10d to 4s lOd. Best merinos, 5s to 6s 2d ; medium. 3a 6d to 4s 3d. Lambekins from Is to 2% Pelts, 9d to Iβ 8d each.

Wheat—There is no alteration to report in this market, a quiet business still ruling. Tuscan, 3s 6d to 3s 6d; pearl, 3s 3d to 33 4d; Hunter's, 3s 2d to 3s 3d per bushel, (sacks extra.

Oats—A slightly improved tone Iβ apparent In bright heavy lines, but other qualities are neglected. We quote prime milling, is 6d to Is 7d; heavy feed, Is 6d to Is 6d; ordinary, Iβ 3d to Iβ 4d per bushel, f.0.b.; sacks extra. Barley—Nominal. Prime malting, 2s 9d to 3s; secondary, 2a to 6d; feed, la 6d to Is 9d per bushel, ex store; eacke extra.

Beans and Peas—Nothtngdoing, Beftn8 4 2s 6d. Peas, hand threshed Prueaian blues, 'is 0d to 3s; other qualities, 2a 3d to 2s 6d per bushel, f.0.b.; sacks extra. • Qrass Seeds—The season for sowing being over, prices are only nominal. Macnine-dres&ed ryegrass, 4» 6d to 4s 9d per bushel. Cocksfoot, to 4fd p«r lb. Dairy produce — Butser, 6d to 6&d; cheese, 3d to 4d per lb.
