FIRE ON OXFORD TERRACE.

The.flrafcifire that has taken place in Christcburch for a considerable time back occurred yesterday morning, a new and eecond'iiand shop, with dwelling-house, occupied by Mr Wm* Parker, having frontages to Oxford terrace and Tuam street, and close to the Montreal street bridge, i being "barnf to>tbte fcround early thia I morning. Mr Parker, who was sleeping •in a room above the shop, stated that he about four o'clock, by smoke"coming from the back of-the buildinf?. Hastily arising, he found that the flames had obtained such a hold that communication with the ground floor by mease of the stairs was cut off. He therefore lowered himself r'bjrjarDpe-to the street, and sounded the i alarm. The Fire Brigade promptly answered the call and iranaged to cooflne fcbe fire to the one buiidiag, which, howu«ver. was completely gutted. Mr Clydeadalee, confectioner shop, was in flames several times, but by the exertions of the Brigade no very damage was done* : The building burned was the property of Mr Charles Clark, and was covered by insurance In the Norwich Ucioa office. Mr Parker estimated the value of his stock at £3W. It was mortgaged to Mr IQinge&steiu lor £200. Mr Parker iuad no inwarancy.
