RELIEF OF DISTRESSED SEAMEN.
f During the past year the sum of £171 23 was expended by the New Zealand Government on account of the relief or distressed seamen. Of this amount £v w Vaß paid for passages of the crew of the Owen from Tahiti, and £3 3s for the crew of the Daisy from HaapaL A further sum of £20 was expended In searching the Three Kings for castaways, In replenishing the depots for castaways dn the Auckland, Campbell, and Antipodes islands, and for tbe purpose of establishing depots on the Macguarie islands a sum of £128 10s was spent, and on the depots in the Kermadec -iroup; £39 3s was expended for the conTreyance of the cre# or the Fiyjfng Venus, of Liverpool, from Samoa to Auckland, this latter amount was afterwards refunded by the Board of Trade.
