IRISH LAND BILL.
DIVISION ON THE SECOND BEADING.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Received May Sod, 8.20 pan. London, May 1. Replying to a debate on the Irish Land Purchase Bill in the House of Commons, Mr Batfour said, in reference to the suggestion that the purchase of land should be placed under the con rol of County Councils, that it would be a rash and dangerous principle to adopt at present, and one most likely to thwart the purchase scheme. He was not opposed to Mr Parnell's scheme, providing ie was made subordinate to the Government plan On a division being taken the Bill was read a second time by 348 to 268.

Speaking in the House of Commons to-day the Marquis of Hartiugton declared that land purchase in Ireland must precede local government.
