SOUTH CANTERBURY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
Second Day. The sports to-day were well attended; the weather was "floe, though at times threatening. The fields being larger added to good handicapping, the events •were more interesting than on the , previous day. Morrison again carries off the Championship with 12 points. J. P. Kalaueher coming next with 8 points. The event of the day was the record made 3* ' Morrison in the half-mile flat race, s time being 2miu 1 4-sfch sec, beating his previous record by 14-sthsec. The watches all agreed exactly, and there was no wind or any other surrounding to in any way especially favor him. The record will be attested by the three timekeepers and sent to the Association. Morrison also won the one mile flat, making the indifferent time of 4min 56 l-sth sec ; but he was badly beaten in the two mile running handicap by C. E. Smith (175 yds), who pat up lOmin 17£ sec, Morrison's time being lOmin 28 2-ath sec. Mendelson was the hero of the sprint handicaps, winning the 150 yards (6yds start) by a few inches in IBaec, and the 250 yards (10yds start)by 3yds in 28sec. Japaes Hay (375 yds) won the two mile walk, without much effort, iv lamia SOsec; and Kalaugher (18yds) just won the quarter over hurdles from Hassel (25yds), his time being 67eec. Coy again won the bicycle (five miles), with 200 yds start, Hall (scratch) catching him at the end of three miles, bat losing his pedal at the critical period, was beaten. J Carr Uoyds> won the High School boys' race, 250__yards, beating seven others, in 39Asec. F. Perry, the scurry, 120 yards, in 13 4-sth see; and W. Perry, the consolation, 100 yards, in 12sec Mrs M. J. Knubley pns&ented the prizes, Morrison especially belug loudly cheered. In addition to getting the gold medal for champion Morrison also carries off Mr J. ttodby's challenge cup for long distance running and walking, and this handsome trophy now becomes his proper**- he' bavins wofethrc? time*.
