ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST, RANGIORA.
The adjourned annual meeting of the parishioners was held on Wednesday evening, in the schoolroom. There was c good attendance, the Rev. W. Gillam, incumbent, presiding, and the Rev. P. H, Pritchett was also present. The Chairman save a statement of church work during the year. Hβ stated that there had been 68 baptisms, 4 marriages, 12 burials, 12 persons confirmed, and 47 cele> bratioaa of the Holy Communion. The number of communicants was 1170, as ag&inat 856 for the previous year; end since Christmas this Sacrament had bees dispensed weekly. The services at'Soutabrook had been conducted regulAri* since the arrived of the AssistantCurate, and the congregation was steadily increasing. A guild for communicants and church workers had recently beea established, and fortnightly classes were held for the help of Sunday school teachers. The class for religious, instras* tion at the State school had beea con* tinued.and was fairly wellattended. Mr W. Meech, Parishioners' Churchwarden, read the Churchwardens' report, which statad that they had to congratulate too parishioners upon the state of the balancesheet. The average offerings per Sunday for the past year had been £4 Bs, as compared with £4 Qα 8d tor the year previous. The offerings for special objects amounted to £28 13s lOd, -aa compared with £21 15s 5d for 1889. There was a slight falling off in the amount of annual subscriptions. The thanks of the parishioners were due to the .Ladies* Sewing Bee and all who, had assisted at the sale of work, entertainments, &c by which a sum of £47 0a M had been raised daring the year. The day school debit balance had been reduced by £16930 a. The statement of account* showed the receipts and expenditure to have been as follows :—General account —Receipts— O/fertories £216 03 2d, subscriptions £71 lla 4d, proceeds of entertainment £4T*Jeßd, rent £21 ss. balance from last ye&r £1015 a lid; total £367 10a Sα. Expenditttß*— Stipend £230, special offertories £28,139 lOd, interest £30, Improvements and sundry expenses £74 17a, balance in hand £3 6*3 Bd. Day School account—Receipts £49 169; dr. balance £M 10s Id, total £94 6s Id: payments dr. balance last year £60 IQs 6d; expenses £&i 5s 7d. . Cemetery account—Receipts £31 19s M, payments £25 Is, credit balance £3 18s 9d. Mr X, Cotton moved the adoption of. tho report; and balance sheet, which was carried. Votes of thanks were then . passed to the Churchwardens (Messrs ftleecb and Vincent), the retiring Veatry, the choirmaster (Mr Hunnibell), th« organist (Miss Dudley) and choir, thl ladies of the sewing bee, the superiotsa I dene and teachere of the Sunday School and Mr George Thompson for geoem' assistance. Special votes of thaaka wew passed to the incumbent and theaesietast curate. The Chairman nominated Mr A Vincent as hia churchwarden, and Mr, A, Templer was unanimously elected fco r# present the parishioners.. The foUowiog gentlemen were elected vestrymen for tbs ensning year:—Messrs W» Buse-,R Cotton, C. A. Cunninghsm, B. Wright, B. D'Auvergne, W. Meech, 6. Shorland, C. B. Torleaso.H. Jones, and Hooper.
