Prospectus. _18ft to complete the present -ontract, the time for completing which will be about nine weeks. This site of the adit was carefully decided upon, and surveyed before the commencement of operations. Estimated Output ahb Profit, by Mr Lindop. The second year, viz., 1891. we could average 2000 tons per weefcy and afterwards 5000 tons per week, or more if required: it would only be a question of trade. Assuming, however, an output of 1300 tons per week; thus— E-CPENE-naHJE. Per Ton. £ s. d. Whoa the Midland Railway is constructed the facilities for getting the coal to market will be greatly increased. The Press of the loth January, 1890, states that the prices of Greymouth coal to be supplied to the New Zealand railways are: at Lyttelton, 21s per ton; at Timaru. 223 3d per ton; and at Oamaru, 22s per ton. The prices of the same coal supplied to the direct steamers are: 20s 3d at Lyttelton; 21s at Dunedin: and 25s at Auckland. The profit at Wellington, Dunedin, Port Pirie, and Melbourne is estimated to be equally satisfactory. With an output of 3000 tons per week, it is estimated that the profit should be over 37 per cent, per annum. Recently an extensive alluvial goldfield has been opened on the property, and the water rights above mentioned will consequently prove highly valuable, as the miners must purchase water from the Company, owing to the Company having the prior rights thereto. Pri-3 of the PROPBRTT—The vendor has offered to enter into a contract with the Company to sell the coalfield for £32,000, and showing the great confidence in the value of the property that exis;s, will take 25,0u0 paid-up shares in part payment. Co-operative Clause —To induce householders and others to take an interest in the Company, the Directors will have power to allow holders of 50 shares and upwards a special discount on their annual pnrchases, to the extent and subject to the terms the Directors may from time to time decide. Generally—lt is anticipated that the field will be opened up, the railway made, and the Company be ready to commence business with an available unexpended" capital of of from £5000 to -7000. The produce of the mine will compare favorably with the coals of Newcastle,.- New South Wales, which are exported to India, Hong Kong, Manilla, Java, San Francisco, Valparaiso, the other Australian Colonies, and New Zealand, and it is anticipated that eventually a large portion of this trade will be secured for the Company. In the meantime there is a growing demand for this class of coal for gas-making throughout* New Zealand and the Australian Colonies, and there will also be an important and constant demand for locomotive fuel for the railways made and being constructed in the district. There are also good prospects that large quantities of this coal will be taken by the various Steamship Companies trading in the colonies, especially as they have largely increased the numoer of their steamers, owing to the expansion of the frozen meat industry. Mr Brown, manager of the Westport and Port Pirie Coke Company, stated to the Westiand Coalfields Committee, 1889:—" I think you ought to b.i prepared for a very large trade, and a , demand for an increased production. If iyou get vessels of 2000 tons to carry four coal, you would get the whole of the Californian and South American trade. At Newcastle there are sometimes 41 ships waiting for coal for San Francisco atone. They would take 70,000 tons. I was informed when over there that one mine had an order for the immediate supply of 5000 tons for San Francisco—that is from a single colliery. Ail that trade would belong to you, for you have a far better coal." The Provisional Directors have endeavored from the information supplied them to estimate profits below rather than above the facts, and in placing this property before the public they beg confidently to state that it would be difficult to procure a more valuable coal field in New Zealand. The sole reason for steps being taken to float this Company is that a railway is necessary to get the coal to market, and capital is required to construct it. The Provisional Directors will register the Company as soon as two-thirds of the shares now offered have been subscribed.
