IN RE B. DE MALMANCHE.
The first meeting of creditors in the estate of Benjamin de Malmanche, sawmiller, Grouf-h's Bay, Akaroa, a bankrupt, was held at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. There was a quorum of creditors present. The bankrupt's statement showed—Unsecured creditors, £472 5s 2d; secured, £804 (estimated to produce full amount); assets, furniture,. £10; deficiency, £462 03 2d. The largest' unsecured creditors were—J. Vaneioni, Akaroa, £90; A. F. Roberts, Waikerikeri, near Le Bon's Bay, £100; C. Brown, Akaroa, £38 lis; V. V. Masefield, Akaroa, £35; F. Cross, Christehurch, £40. The secured creditors were—Mercantile Finance Company, Limited, Christehurch, £610; H. Piper (Akaroa), £150; F. H. Bruges, Christchnrch, £44. The debtor, in his statement, said he started in business in August, 1888, with, nearly £180 capital. The cause of his failure was badness of machinery and accidents to the same, and pressure of: creditors. , In reply to questions, the debtor said he and his son dissolved partnership about two months ago. It was never advertised. He did not Know whether he had an interest in his wife's property. Tbe sum of £403 was left to his wife' by her, father, and invested by trustees In land at German Bay. She had a life interest in it, and at her death it would go to the children; Bankrupt paid no par. of the purchase money for the laud. The timber at the'"mill was included in the Mercantile Finance Company s.claim. The meeting then adjourned.
