With reference to the probable disposal of the surplus, as mentioned in toy last night? s te-egiam, viz., paying off the J_f __ain__g __7&605 of the Stout-Vogel deficit, and carrying forward the balance, it may be worth while, to point out that only _.56,00-of this euin is derived from the primage duty, which'was imposed mainly for the purpose. The oth.r .323,00. odd will come out of ordinary revenue. Of this only some _313,000 will be recouped by the remaining period which the primage duty haa still to ran, it having been imposed, for two years, leaving a sum of __i-,.G0 still, to be inrnish-d Outside that source. It may be noted, however, that the primage duty will have produced during its two years of existence within about J. 10,000 of the sum it was originally estimated to yield.
