f_>_» FR-0S ASSOOIA-TOlfl Received April 14th, &_0 p.m. LONboisr, April 13. General Sir Joha Henry Lefroy, who was Administrator of the Government of Tasmania 1880-1881, aged 73, is dead.
[General Sir John Henry Lefroy, K.0.M.G., C.8., L.L.Di, was born 1817; e<. jered the Royal Army 1834; became •Captain 1845, Lieutenant-Colonel 1855, Colonel 1865, fMajor-General 1868, LieutGeneral 1877, Colonel • Commandant 1881, and General (retired) 1882; was director of Magnetical and Meteorogical Observatory at St. Helena 184041, and at Toronto 18__-53; made a magnetic survey of the interior of the Continent of America from Montreal to the Arctic Circle 1842-48; was scientific adviser to the Duke of Newcastle at the War Office on subjects of artillery and inventions 1854-55; sent on a special mission to the seat of war 1855; and to Mediterranean fortresses 1859; was ! Inspector-General of Army Schools 1857-59: was Governor of Bermuda 1871-77, and of Tasmaniajtemporary) 1880; Hon L.L.D, otMcQ-ill University, Montreal. Created K.C.M.G. 1877.
