FORESTRY.

The quarterly meeting of the Canterbury United District A.0.F., was Mid at the hair of Court Queen of the Seas, New Brighton, on Thursday evening last, when a large number of the local brethren were S resent. The" District officers—Bros. W. >. Marks, D.C.R.; W- "Were, D.C.R.; HCrooks.D.T.; Thos. Gapes, D. Sec.; and G. White, D.B.—were in their appointed positions. The following delegates were present:—Bros. W. Weakley, C. Samuels, J. Gapes. Junr. (Court Star of Canterbury), Geo. Bedford (Court Pride of Courtenay), Wm. Miller (Court Thistle of the Forest), Wm. Simpson (Court Woodford), Wathew (Court Pride of Richmond), J. Douglas (Court Papanui), E. Thompson (Court Star of Belfast), and W. Walker (Court Queen of the Seas). The - credentials having been presented and the minutes read, the D.C.B. spoke at length on the business during the quarter and the visits made to the branches, and stated that, the District Officers would visit Court Papaaui on next Thursday evening. The correspondence and usual business ha* fag been taken, the matter of concession by the Railway Commissioners to officers and delegates, travelling on Friendly Society business was considered. It was resolved—"That at any Conference or meeting of Friendly Societies this District endeavor to get the concession extended, so that the same privileges may be obtained to attend the opening of new Courts or quarterly meetings, &c. The D.C.R. stated that other Courts than those which at present have district merit boards would like to have one to their halls. The framing of the Reciprocal Appeal Committee rules was deferred till next meeting. The consideration of extra remuneration to auditors was also left till theannua! meeting. On the proposition by Bro. C. Samuels, seconded by Bro. Jas. Gapes, jun,, thi Executive officers were asked to take Intc consideration the cost of a banner for tht district, and they were requested to obtain some P.D.C.R.'s certificates, to be distributed to all P.D.C.U.'s. The question of the non-registration oi Courts Star of Canterbury and Queen of the Isles was discussed, the delegates pointing out the anomaly existing. It was proposed by Bro. G. Bedford, seconded by JBro. S.B. watbew, and agreed to— ,. That the Permanent District Secretary write to the members of the Courts drawing their attention to the existing state of their connection with the District, and draw their especial attention to District laws 2? to 29.

It was resolved, on the motion of Bro» Simpson, seconded by Bro. C. Samuels, 'That the next meeting be held at Kaiapot." ° After the business was concluded and the D.C.R. closed the meeting, the mem* bere adjourned to supperj&t Pattereon'a Hotel, at the invitation of the local members.
