THE DERBY.

Surefoot remains < a strong favorite for the Derby, at 7 to 2 against,! . DUIfEDET NOTES. [By Tsubsrapb.] 9xoli oub correspondent.

DUNE DLN, March 20. Another small master of horses at the Forbury this morning and the work was rather uninteresting. Garibaldi did three times round on the inside track at strong pace, moving remarkably well. Miss George had strong work over two miles and a quarter. She is in Hoeklne' hands, and appears to be in good form. Wolverine and Mon Loup raced over a mile and a quarter. The latter waa in trouble after half a mile had been covered, and had to be driven along to keep pace with his companion, who was going easily. Both had light boys up. Emmason sprinted over foar furlongs. Occlden t and Stonehengs were sent two miles and a quarter at a smart pace. Both are in good trim, especially the latter. Lady Bell finished in front of Belvidere In a six furlongs spin, but the latter was not ridden out. Dispute cantered a mile, and then covered a mile and a quarter at a strong pace. A number of ponies and trotters were exercised.

Don Oeesar having gone amiss, was scratched for all engagements at four o'clock to-day. .--■•■■ Tal, Britannia and Princess Royal have been withdrawn from the Three Mile Trot. Lfrom another oorrespondknt. I : DUNEDIN, Maroh2o. There are no indications of rain, and the Forbury course is getting as hard as a macadamised road. It was only to be expected that a continuance of the dry weather would injuriously affect some of the horses in training, and St. James and Don Caesar have already gone amiss, and will be absentees from the Anniversary Meeting. My impressions for the first day are— Anniversary Handioap—MON LOUP. Tbot—RUBY. Cliffs Handicap—LA BOSS or BELVIDBUE. ' The Great Autumn Handicap is an absolute dead letter, not a solitary wager being recorded during the week.

[PRRB3 ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM. 1 DUNEDIN, Mawh 20. , St. James has been scratched for the Anniversary and Cliffs Handicaps ab the D.J .0. meeting on Saturday, Don Caesar for all engagements, and Britannia and Princess Bayal for Three Mile Troc
