ASHBURTON FIRE BRIGADE.

The annual meeting of the Ashburton Fire Brigade was held at the Brigade's room on Tuesday evening ;l Captain G. F. Scott presiding. An inspection of the plant showed that it was most complete in every respect, and that the state In which it was kept reflected the highest credit on the Engineer, Mr E. Dolman. Captain fcotfc reported that the Brigade was kept up to the maximum, and that every member was well uniformed and equipped. The Brigade intended sending a team,- under command of Foreman Nokes, to compete at the meeting to be held in Wellington next month. After the ordinary business, the meeting resolved itself into one of a convivial nature. A number of toasts were honored, and many capital songs were given. Mr W. C. Walker, M.H.R., was present, and during the evening he presented, on behalf of the Brigade, handsomely framed long service certiheates to Firemen Compton, Pouting, and Undrill. Cap am Scott presided at the gatherincr, the vicechair being occupied by Lieutenant A. Fooks. -
