THE INTERCOLONIAL CRICKET MATCH.

The New South Wales cricketers arrived from the North yesterday morning by the .3.8. Takapuna, and reached Christchurch by the 1L45 a.m. train from the port. They were met by a number of Canterbury players, and driven in one of Delamain » drags to the Clarendon Hotel, where they will stay during their visit. They visited Lancaster Park during the afternoon, and were very loud in their praise of tho ground and the wicket which has been prepared. They indulged -in some practice, after which the following pla*-grs?wero chosen to represent New South Wales :— Jos. Davis (captain), J. Gottam, S. Callaway, A. Clarke, H. Robinson, A. Newell, W. McGlinchey, J. Shepherd, G. TouillG. Cowper, J. Josephs. They have been. invited for tennis and afternoon tea by Mr H. Wynn Williams, President of tbe Canterbury Cricket Association. Yesterday evening the Canterbury men had good batting practice, and wound up by some good work in fielding. , «_• The following letter has been receivedr by the Association :—** Christchurch, ~S_h February, 1890. The Secretary Canterbury Cricketers* Association —Dear Sir,—l ana directed to inform you that at a meeting of the Grocers' Association, held this afternoon, it was decided to close their places of business on Friday next at 1 o'clock, on the occasion of the cricket match between New South Wales and Canterbury. — Yours faithfully, H. Andrews, Secretary Canterbury Grocers' and Storekeepers' Association. By an advertisement elsewhere it will be seen that, in addition to the solicitors, Insurance Companies, drapers,-grocers, &c., who have already notified their intention of closing on Friday afternoon, over fifty other firms have decided to keep holiday for the cricket match. Owing to the fixtures with N.S.W. the annual match between Canterbury and Otago has been postponed till March. Mr C. Davis, the manager of the New South Wales cricket eleven; has kindly offered to give a bat for the highest Score in an inniugs on either side.
