GRAIN AND PRODUCE,
Wβ are unable to advise any Improvement in the grain market, the week having been entirely devoid of animation. Wheat remains in about the same position as it was at the date of last report, with few transactions taking place. From private advices from Sydney, we learn that New Zealand Tuscan was being sold at Ss 10d ex store, but great difficulty was found in quitting Hunter's white, owing to the strong prejudloe Sydney millers had against It, one or two lines had, however, been sold at Sβ 6Jd. The Incoming mail from Australia brings very hopeful accounts of the crops there, more particularly from South Australia, where they are expected to be the most abundant In that colony's history. From this mail we also learn tha* Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide have been, more or less, slutted with oats from New Zealand and California. Our local market, however, continues steady and prices have not changed. Barley is sluggish, and we do not hear of any business passing. In cocksfoot there is but little trade doing, fairly large shipments, however, are being made by direct sailer to London on consignment. Byegrass is in small compass, and the enquiry b slacking off. Potatoes at the beginning of the week reached famine prices, but a reaction has been apparent during the last day or two, and quotations are easier. Dairy produce is without attention being dull and listless. The weather has been somewhat dry during the week with a prevalence of high winds. A few good showers would now be of great benefit, although the crops are looking well and forward.
