Mawson, complaining that the Board had not consulted him in to the drainage on Sanderson's road opposite his property. A deputation of the Board, consisting of Messrs Watson, Waby, Jones, and Lochhead, reported having visited the locality referred?to on June 20th, and recommended that the water coming down the centre drain through Mr W. Boat's property should be sent down the Brooksfde and Dunsandel road, and the other drain between Messrs J. Mawson and W. Boag should be discharged into the drain running through the property of Mr Thos. Mawson. Letter from Messrs J. G. Mawson and other interested landholders, approving of the Board's action. Circular from the Selwvn County Council, stating that £ for £ would be paid to Road Boards to supplement all expenditure in the destruction of small birds during the months of June, July August, and September, 1889. Mr M* Jones moved that the offer of the Council be accepted, and that the Board spend the sum of £40 on this object, to be allocated from, the funds of the Board. Carried. Letter from Mr H. Overtonand ten others. asking the Board to cake some steps t<2 prevent the overflow of the Selwra on southern bank, between the Selwyntown•hip and Mr H. Washbourne's corner. W. Jamison. Resolved to recommend the Board to increase the allowance to Jamison to 10s a week. Petition from J. Snell and eleven residents of Leeston, asking that Selwyn street should be metalled. Agreed to consider the matter in the spring. Circular from the County Council, asking for returns in compliance with the Counties Act. The Clerk reported that the same had been duly forwarded. From Mr James Gardiner, asking the Board to widen and deepen the side drain in Clark's road, from his boundary to Mr McDonald's bridge. Agreed to carry out the work il the usual contribution is guaranteed. From Messrs G. B. Woodman end J. Wills, applying to have about 15 chains of drainage and a culvert put through the main road at Irwell. The Board decided it had no funds to devote to this purpose. The Board dealt with applications from several ratepayers with regard to improvements in roads, &&, which were wanted. It was decided by lot that Messrs Lochhead and Waby be the retiring members at the end of the year. Mr M 7 Jones moved—"That a general district road rate of id in the £ be struck and levied on all the rateable property within the Ellesmere district for the period, commencing Ist day of April, and ending en 30th day September, 1880: such rate to become due and payable In one sum on the 15th day of July, 1889." Seconded by Mr Watson, and carried unanimously, and the rate book was duly signed. The Overseer's report was read and considered. Resolved that tenders be called, returnable on Friday, the 12th Inst, for supply of teams and day labor when required for ensuing twelve months. Resolved that the metal pits, known as Sandrey's pits, be closed to the public. Two pay sheets, amounting to £300 13s lid, was examined and passed, and the Board adjourned.
