KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL
Thefortnightly meeting was held on Toes day evening. Present—The Mayor (MrHanaen), Crs. Blakeley, Kidd, Wearing, May, Humphreys, Fraser, Doubleday, Stanton. .Leave granted Cr. Feldwick. Letters were read—From Mrs Hicks, for repairs to bridge over drain at Askheaton. Referred to works Committee. From Waiiuakariri Harbor Board, accepting offer of £ for £ towards protective works. From Hon. £. Richardson, promising to support the Christchurch Gasworks Bill. From Sydenham Borough Council, asking Councils to support an amendment to tne Charitable Aid Bill to give representation to the centres. On the motion of Cr. Blakeley, seconded by Cr. Wearing, it was decided to support the views of this letter, and that the Mayor act in any conference upon the question. The Surveyor's report recommended clearing Smith street and forming it, also to order 200 yds or more of metal for streets, and to grant an extension of time to report on the formation of Cass street. The Finance Committee reported:—Receipts, £2 19s 6d; general account debit, £378 2e 9d; loan account, credit, £668 3s 4d. Accounts, £29 3s Id were passed. Cr. Blakeley, for Sanitary Committee, reported to appoint an inspector at £13 a year, to furnish a monthly report. Cr. Wearing moved, Cr. Fraser seconded—" That a schedule of duties for Sanitary Inspector be prepared," which was agreed to, the report to stand over. Cr. Humphrey* moved for erection of a lamp at the Council Chamber, which was agreed to. Tenders for forming roads were considered too high. A tender, £46 93, for drainage on east side of the borough was accepted; and for 200 yards grit at 6d per yard. Permission was granted Cr. Wearing to employ men in trimming'trees on Charles street. Attention was called to the introduction of the by-laws, and to the want of maps and wall decoration in the Council Chamber, after which the Council adjourned.
