THE SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE.

TO THB XDITOR OF THB PRESS. Sra, — As the Lincoln Agricultural College has been so prominently before the public lately, possibly an extract or two from letters received by mc from America, where. similar institutions are very numerous, will be interesting. After saying be was going to the College to see the boys, my correspondent continues: —" I am not satis fled with the agricultural knowledge imparted at the College; there is no actual practical experience, as at the Lincoln College in Neve Zealand, and I am nowconsidering whether it would not be better for Potter to return to New Zealand and finish up at Lincoln College. At the State College all the work is done by hired men. because the boys will not work to seed* or save the crops, because they haveno inducement offered them to do so, as is the case at Lincoln College; and I found the same result at Tennessee, and also the Mississippi Agricultural Colleges, both of which have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and offer no pecuniary inducements to the students. My boys have been two years at the great college of Pensylvania, and yet have never done an hoar's work Iα the field or with the stock. Vance (this is another boy who was at Lincoln) knew more about farming and sheep and cattle when he left Lincoln than any student will after ten -years' attendance at the Agricultural Colleges X have been at In the United States. If I were sure that Mr Ivey would remain at Lincoln, I would not hesitate to sent Potter there at once. My only fear is that the Government will always be meddling with the government of the College, and thereby destroy confidence in the usefulness of the College. I always said that the fees or charges at Lincoln were beyond the ability or amatt farmers of New, Zealand, and should be reduced to a minimum. . By Inserting the above in your widelycirculated journal, yoa will oblige yours traiy, J. T. Peacock.
