Monday, July 8. (Before Messrs R. Westenra, A. C. Wilson, and W. White, jun., J.P.'s.) Drunkenness.—Four first offenders were fined 5s each and costs, and Thomas Walsh was fined 10s for drunkenness. Alleged Assault.—An infermation against Frank Kelly, charging him with assaulting Ellen Burney, was withdrawn by the prosecutrix. Mr Byrne, who appeared for the defendant, applied for and was allowed costs. (Beforeß. Beetham, Esq.,R.M., R. Westenrai and W. White, Esqs.) Neglected Children. —Jessie Haliburton (13), William Haliburton (9), Robert Haliburton (7), Margaret Haliburton (5), and Susan Haliburton <3), were brought up as neglected children. Evidence given by the police showed that their father was in the North Island and their mother was keeping a brothel where the children were kept. They ran about the streets in a dirty neglected condition. They were ordered to be sent to Burnham for the usual terms, to be brought up as Presbyterians. Civil Cases.—ln Roberts v Hanson, a claim for £75, judgment was for plaintiff by default with costs. Campbell v Mrs Quartley, claim £4 3s 0d on judgment summons. Mr Stringer appeared for, the judgment creditor. The defendant pleaded poverty, but offered to pay 5s per month, which was accepted. Watson v Sharp was adjourned till July 11th.
