The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday, July Ist, at which all the members were present. Messrs F. Watson, J. T. Smith, and Wm. Miller interviewed the Board to urge the necessity of enlarging the culvert or substituting a dish in the road at Lad brook's. They also drew the Board's attention to the large quantity of water allowed to run from the water-race into the gravel pit on reserve 277. It was agreed to call for tenders for dishing the road ; the caretaker's attention to be drawn to the waste water at the reserve. Correspondence was read—From tbe manager In charge of the water-race, asking permission to dish the Selwyn road near Broadfleld. Agreed to, providing a footbridge is put up. From tbe Springs Road Board, relative to storm watercrossingtheroadatStoddart'scorner, and requesting that provision be made for taking the water in some other direction. Resolved—That as the water in question had been running in its present course for the last thirty years, the Board saw no reason to make other provision for it. Replies were received from several Road Boards agreeing to the alteration proposed by this Board in the Charitable Aid Act. A petition was received from Mr Jas. Winter and thirty other ratepayers, requesting that the road through R.S. 1354 be opened, and that the Board urge upon the Halswell Board the necessity of opening the continuation of this road through R.S. 721, &c to connect with the main road to Christchurch.
