The recent seizure of cases of drapery samples from a Home firm to their colonial agents by the Customs authorities is alleged to be owing to the ignorance of the importers of the fact that Customs duties were leviable on the gross instead of nett amount of value. The matter has been referred to the Commissioner of Customs at Wellington. Inspector Brohazn, of the police force, presented Sergeant Donovan with a gold watch to-day on behalf of the residents of Patea, which district the sergeant had just left. DtTNBDIN, July 5. The South British Insurance Company intend moving to set aside the judgment in Bradbury's case, on the nonsuit, or a new trial. Failing this they will appeal. The case is one in which the Assignee recovered the insurance on the property of Bradbury, a draper, who disappeared the day after the fire. The Bey. D.Macgregor, of St. Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, leaves for Ihvercargill by the morning train. William Gow, who was living at Musselburgh, died suddenly of paralysis. He had been ailing for some time. Hβ was sixty years of age. Mr Simpson, a store-keeper, in Dundas street, died snddenly to-day. He was a very old man. OAMAfctT, July. 5. A child, eighteen months of age, the son of Mr McGregor, of the Eveline Slaughtering Works, was drowned in a creek. The child was taken out of the water three minutes after if; was missed, but animation could not be restored.
