DEATH BY DROWNING.

Shortly before 8 o'clock yesterday morning William Evans, a letter carrier, discovered the body of a man in the River Avon, at the Hereford street bridge. He exaruined the body, and found that life was extinct. He then reported the matter to Constable Leahy who, with Constable Cullen, examined the place and body, and saw that the latter had been caught in the piles of the bridge. Sergeant-Major McDonald, who had also arrived, pulled out the body while Constable Leahy went for the stretcher, on which deceased was taken to the Clarendon Hotel, where Mr William H. Blundell, dentist, identified the body, as that of hie father, who was 82 years of age. The circumstances attending the death of Mr Blundell are mysterious. His son saw him at 6 p:m., on Thursday when there was nothing at all strange about his manner, though previously he bad threatened to do away with himself. In consequence of this, the eon employed a Mrs Kerr to look after his father. Early this morning Mr Blundell went to his father's bedroom, and finding him absent his commenced a search, which resulted in his finding the corpse of his father at the Clarendon. The body bow no of violence. In the pockets of the clothes were three pairs of gloves, a purse, a handkerchief, one shilling, and a half-penny. Deceased had been many years-ia the colony, and leaves a grown-up family, most of whom are married. An inquest will be held in due course.
