CHRISTCHURCH.
Friday, July 5. (Before R. Westenra, F. Trent and C. W* Turner, Esqs.) Undersized Fish.—Edwin Senior, Geo. S. Husband, Peter Farran and Joseph Germano, fishmongers, were charged under the Fisheries Conservation Act. 1831, with exposing for sale mullet under the size prescribed by the Act, Inspector Kennedy produced samples of fish taken from each of the defendants. On weighing the fish before the Court they were found to be not more than 2£oz, whereas the Act says that none lighter than 4oz are to be dealt in. The case was then adjourned till Wednesday, for the attendance of counsel for defendants.
Prohibition Order.—An order was made prohibiting publicans and others in Christchurch and suburbs from supplying Thomas Smith with intoxicating liquors for the period of one year. Smith himself applied for the order. He informed the Bench that he had been drinking hard for five years, and Vas now determined to reform.
