CHRISTCHUCH SOUTH-EAST.

The quarterly (annual) meeting of the Committee for the South-east Licensing division of the city was held at the Municipal Chambers at noon yesterday. Present— Messrs K. J. S. Harman (Chairman), J. V. Ross, C. P. Hulbert, F. J. Kimbell and F. H. Barns. Mr W. (Clerk to the Committee), Mr Inspector Pender, and Mr H. Sawtell (Secretary to the Licensed Victuallers* Association) were also present.

Renewals of licenses were granted as follows:—C. Amyes, Al Hotel; F. Arenas, Cafe de Paris; J. Barrett, Harrett's Family Hotel; J. Conway, Grosvenor; J. Coker, Coker's Family Hotel; A. Cartwright, Royal George; J. Fox, Prince of Wales; F. J. Fuchs, Wellington; C. Goldstone, Railway; T. Green, Imperial; J. Wallace, Wallace's Hotel; H. Keane, Scotch Stores; E. Ravenhill, Caversham; T. Quill, Empire; W. Schmidt, New Zealander; F. Storey, Terminus. Edward Boot was granted a New Zealand wine license for his premises in High street. The following transfers were granted:— Ellen Elizabeth Hadfield to John McNamara, City Hotel; J. fc. Lear to B. J. W. Chamberlain, Provincial; J. McNamarato JohnMolloy, Queen's; E. C. Latter (Official Assignee) to R. N. Newby, White Hart. Renewals were also granted in the case of the City Hotel and White Hart. The Chairman reminded the licensees of the Prince of Wales and the Caversham Hotels that these houses required rebuilding, and he asked them to bear this in mind. He expressed his pleasure at seeing that Mr McNamara going into the City Hotel. In the case* pi His Loruship's Larder, Eastern, Occidental, Provincial, and Queen's Hotels, the applications for renewals were postponed till the 18th inst., to allow of t*e means for flushing the urinals on ttee premises beine improved, te the satisfaction of the City Inspector, who had reported on the Eleven o'clock licenses were granted, with all the renewals, with permission to extinguish the lamp at that hour. The Chairman expressed the satisfaction of tbe Committee at the uniformly favorable nature of the report on the licensed houses, not a singK objection being made against any of the__ Mr fIU-BKRT took the opportunity of pointing out the necessity for an efficient and less costly scheme of water supply for the city.
