An interesting diary of a London citizen of the seventeenth century has, says the Athf/urum , recently come into the hands of Mr Alfj -ed Wallis, of Exeter. The writer was James Lever, of Bolton, Lancashire, whose elder brother Robert was the founder of . .he Grammar school in that town. His sister married Dr. Calamy, the famo us Presbyterian, concerning whose deal, h and family there are many entries of b lterest. James Lever came to London ii _ 1630, when the diary commences. It ne t only deals with personal adventures i md details of London city life, but abounds in allusions to the stirring national. Ijistory of the Commonwealth.
