[from our corsespondent.l [By _______g___-_._- from the Bluff.] SYDNEY, March 19. At the Water Police Court this morning a charge of a horrible nature was preferred against a foreigner named Ernest Buttner, a restaurant keeper, carrying on business at 64 Erskine street, viz., that of having criminally assaulted a girl named Jessie Ldnnox. Senior Sergeant Murphy depoßed that at about a quarter to one this morning he was sent for, and, with two constables, proceeded to prisoner's house, where he arrested accused, who wag naked in the room which had been occupied by prosecutrix. Prosecutrix deposed that she was eighteen years of age, and had only arrived from Brisbane last Sunday, in search of a situation. Being recommended to prisoner's house she, as a stranger, put up there, and late on the second night the prisoner entered her room and endeavored to enter into conversation with her. She rebuffed him, and he produced two bottles containing liquid, the contents of one of which he called upon her to drink but she declined. He thereupon threatened to ram the bottle down her throat, and frightened her greatly, and assaulted her. She seized the first chance that offered, and sprang up, but not knowing what to do, darted through an open window and fell do *n on to the roof, a distance of about sixteen feet, where she remained clinging by her hands until her screams brought assistance. She was rescued from her perilous position and removed for medical attendance. Charles Atherley, a cook in the place, said that after midnight he was aroused by loud screams, and in company with another man ran out and saw prosecutrix in her nightgown only clinging to the roof and in a very dangerous position. Some of her wearing apparel was brought out when her rescue was effected, and shortly afterwards prisoner entered the room where they had placed her in a very excited and fainting condition, and made use of some horrible remarks. He was subsequently locked up. Constable John Weir gave corroborative testimony. The prisoner was remanded.
