[PBBSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.] AUCKLAND, March 7. The charge against eight Chinese gardeners for wounding two cows, the property of a settler at Kingsland, was heard to-day at the Police Court and dismissed. Seven Auckland contractors had prepared tenders for the erection of the new Court-house at Onehunga, but, on learning that they must go to Wellington with deposits, declined to lodge tenders. They allege that they would certainly be ke t out of their money for six weeks. Another grievance is that Wellington timber was specified for nearly the whole work, placing Auckland tenderers at a disadvantage, and increas ng the cost of the work by 20 per cent. Mr D. T. Arnott, of the Irish Times, is now here. He states that he has no intention of reporting on the state of colonial feeling in regard to Home Rule in Ireland. He is on a pleasure visit, and goes South to-day to see he harvest operations, returning to Auckland later. At the Assessment Court, yesterday, the Town Clerk drew the attention of the Court to the frequent discrepancies of the statements of owners and occupiers as to the rents paid, the latter invariably stating they were paying higher rents than the landlord averred he received, and that the tenant could have no object in stating the rental was more than he was paying. The Court admitted the discrepancies, but no action was taken.
