HOSPITAL BOARD.

« An ordinary monthly meeting of thk North Canterbury Hospital Board was held at 2p. m. yesterday. There were present Messrs W. White, jun. (Chairman). R, Westenra, R. Martindale, W. Moor, W Prudhoe, J. U. Boys, and F. Jones. The House Committee reported &j follows :— " There is nothing of special importance to report to the Board on the present! occasion. A tender has been accepted foi the improvement of the main entrance, and providing new gates. The contractor! for the new boiler and alterations to drying closet have completed their respective work. An opportunity is now pre. sented whereby the Board can observe the improvements effected. Your Com* mittee has considered the matter of greater water supply, and has come to the conclusion that this might be effected with greater economy by means of hydraulic rams, instead of by a steam injector. During the month 41 patients have been admitted, 41 discharged, 4 have died, leaving 55 remaining in the Hospital. The receipts for the month have been :—Patients' maintenance fees, £29 &>; out-patienta, £1 19» 9d; from other districts for patients belonging thereto, 4JS6 16s ; local bodies, £451 03 9d; Government subsidy, £416 Si Sd; total, £983 12s 2d. The expenditure has been for general purposes, i>34o 4s 3d: amount still due from local bodies is £913 9a 6d." The report was adopted on the motion of Messrs Westenra and Moor. The next meeting of the Board was fixed for the last Friday in this month, to receive the tenders for supplies and to consider the estimates for the current year. The meeting then terminated.
