CHRISTCHURCH REGATTA CLUB.

A meeting of the above was held last night at the Commercial Hotel. Mr T. L. Smith occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. A letter was read from Yen. Archdeacon Lingard, stating that owing to the date of the regatta interfering with his Lenten services, he was obliged to decline acting as judge. The offer of Mr Weeks to print the programme was accepted. The Treasurer reported that there was £59 7s in the Bank and £29 6s promised, making a total of £88 15s. The Secretary reported as to the visit of the Sub-committee to the Lake. It had been scoured out most thoroughly, and they would be able to get the best course they had yet had. The weeds, he might mention, had entirely disappeared. There was now 4ft of water at the twomile post. They had arranged with Mr Mitt to erect a fence for the boats 90ft frontage and 66ft deep. The fence was on the Government land and could remain permanently, which was a great improvement on the canvas fence of last year. He had also made arrangements for constructing a launching stage for the boats which could be brought back. It was arranged to write to nis Worship the Mayor, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Insurance Associations, asking that the day of the regatta should be declared as a holiday. It was resolved to have a telegraph board at the winning post, on which the events and time should be posted. It was decided to ask Mr H. Thomson to act as judge on the occasion. Mr Geo. Wright was appointed to take charge of the finishing gun, and it was resolved to charge 2s 6d for entrance to the enclosure. The meeting then adjourned to Wednesday next, when the entries are due. <
