The harque Penpont having arrived will start this morninsr to discharge her cargo of Newcastle coal to the order of Messrs Geo. McClatchie and Co. Yesterday morning the Union Steamship Company's s.s. Penguin arrived in port from Dunedin. She left for Wellington at nine o'clock last night, taking the southern portion of the London malls for the s.s. Doric and passengers. The Union Company's steamer Brunner, Captain Ewan, arrived at 6.30 a.m. yesterday from Dunedin, Oamaru, and Timaru. Her purser reports leaving Dunedin at 10 p,m.on the Brd, called in at Oamaru and Timaru, leaving the latter port at 5.30 pm. on the sth, arriving here as stated above. Experienced fine weather from Dunedin to Timaru, thence head winds to arrival. She steamed for Wellington and •Greymouth at 2.15 p.m. From Akaroa the s.s. Jane Douglas arrived in port last night. The schooner Croydon Lass from Havelock arrived in port last night. The schooner Lily goes alongside the barque Kinclune to receive salt for Timaru to-day. - To-morrow the barque Kinclune sails for Oamaru, there to load for London on account of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company. The ketch Florence is now due from Havelock with timber. To-day the ship Bargany will complete her. loading for London. She will get away to sea on Saturday. With a cargo of coals the barquentine tFenpopt arrived In port yesterday morning; from Newcastle after a fine-weather passage of sixteen days. She loads back to Sydney on account of Messrs 6. G. Stead and Co. . The ketch Clematis cleared for Havelock yesterday in ballast. - The ketch Comet, timber-laden, arrived from Havelock yesterday afternoon. - Yesterday morning the s.s. Wakatu -arrived in port fromTWellington via Kaikoura. After discharging her cargo for .this port and receiving outward freight, she left again for the same ports last night. A. formal investigation ordered by the -Board of Trade into the circumstances -attending the supposed loss of the Renfrewshire, about 2nd July last, on a voyage >from Glasgow to Brisbane, was held at -Glasgow on Bth January. The Court found at the close of the evidence that the Renfrewshire left Glasgow in all respects in good and seaworthy condition, with her cargo properly stowed, and with sufficient freeboard, and that she was properly and efficiently manned. There was no cvi denee, however, to warrant the Court in . arriving at any conclusion as to how she was lost.
