H.M.S. RAPID.
This man-of-war was thrown open to the public yesterday, and a very large number availed themselves of the opportunity of inspecting her, those on board being courtesy itself in giving the fullest information in answer, to the numerous questions with which they were plied. The Rev. Chambers conducted divine service on board yesterday. On Saturday afternoon a team of thirteen of the Rapid's crew played a game of cricket on the Harbor Board Rsserve in Dampier's Bay against a similar number of the Lyttelton Navals. There were several on either side who understood the game, and if they had been on good ground would have made a fair display. Both teams had a tail which was painfully apparent as each innings closed; ithis tail did not make a mark for brilliant and dashing batting, but rather impressed the onlookers, of which there were a good many, that at one time or another they had followed agricultural pursuits, and were thoroaghly conversant with the use of the scythe. The game resulted in a win for H.M.S. Rapid on the first innings, which.dosed for 75,-of which Whiteaway (15), Rich (12), McGovern (13), and Cantwell (10), were the principal scorers. The first innings of the Lyttelton Navals dssed for 43, Grubb (14) being top scorer. The second attempt of the Rapkl's men was not very successful. They managed to put together 42, to which the Lyttelton Navals responded with 57 for the loss of six wickets; Field 13, Burnip 19. Whiteaway and Pratt bowled for the Rapids, and Grubb and Seymour for the Lyttelton Navals. The cutter race between the Rapid's crew and the Navals, which was postponed from last week, is to come off tonight. So far it is not 'definitely known when this vessel leaves our waters, but it is thought that by next Wednesday she will get under way. _
