WHEAT SHIPS.
In view of tlie heavy crop 3 which are now ripening on our plains it will doubtless be good news to farmers to learn that in addition to the regular traders belonging to the New Zealand Shipping Company and the Shaw, SavUl-Albion line, our merchants are already making provision for the transport of wheat to Europe. The following ships have been chartered in Australia and will shortly arrive'in Lyttelton: — Bargany, 1295 tons, classed 100 Al. Earl Rosebery, 1174 tons, classed 100 Al. Sardhana, 1146 tons, classed 100 Al. Victoria Bay, 1173 tons, classed 100 Al. Banflshire, 937 tons, classed 100 Al. Glenbervie, 800 tons, classed *Aal. There are doubtless other charters, of which we have not learned, but the above is a goodly list, composed as it is of firstclass iron ships, having an aggregate carrying capacity of nearly 500,000 bushels. It is understood that present charter rates are about 30s per ton for London direct, 32s 6d for orders, and 35s if ordered to a continental port.
