The National Zeitung has official authority for stating that Germany will not interfere with the autonomy of Samoa and Zanzibar. The steamer Nurnberg, of the NorddeutscheUoyd line, left Bremer-haven yesterday for Apia, with relief crews for the German men-of-war stationed at Samoa. Received January 2£th. 12.40 pan. Washington, January 24. Mr Sewell, American Consul at Samoa, when under examination by j the Foreign Relations Committee, said that in order to more effectually deal with the Samoan difficulty, Admiral Kimberley, of the American corvette Triton, who was recently ordered to proceed to Samoa, must receive enlarged powers. The tford-deutsche Zeitung says no treaties exist between Germany and the United States with reference to the independence of Samoa, still Germany will treat with respect the rights of other Powers in Samoa based upon existing treaties.
