Drunkenness.—Charles Cavanagh, who had not been up for some time, was fined ss, or in default twenty four hoars' imprisonment. Larceny. — Alexander Skilling (12) pleaded guilty to stealing a box of cigarettes, value 14s 6d, the property of A. Cartwright. It appeared that on the previous day the boy went into the Boyal George Hotel»East belt, for sixpenny worth of beer. While the person who waited on him bad her back turned, he was seen to put his hand round the counter and take the box of cigarettes, which he placed in a kit, and which was found with him immediately afterwards. The boy now said he thought the box was empty. Inspector Pender said the boy's mother was addicted to drink, but his father was a hard-working, respectable man, who had to meet a good deal of trouble at home. Nothing was known previously of the boy, who was convicted, severely reprimanded, and discharged with a prouiise of being sent to Burnham if he came up again. Civil Cases.—Parker v Smythe, claim £45 4s 2d. Mr Byrne for plaintiff, Mr E4issellfor defendant. In this case, in which an auctioneer was sued by a client for damage by alleged neglect of instructions, the Bench, while finding in the plaintiff's favor as to part of the claim, held C»ver for consideration the point whether dr not judgment could be given for that part His Worship now said that he was of opinion it could'not, and gave judgment for defendant with costs £7 Is. Judgments went for plaintiffs by default, with costs, in Gray v Papworth, £16 7s 9d, Matson and Co, T McNamaia, £821156 d; Haskins v Luksy, £8 15s, and Bull v Beaken, 14s; Harris v A. W. Eshck, claim £20 15s sd, was a judgment summons. Mr Stringer appeared for the plaintiff, Mr Cohen for tne defendant. The ability of the debtor to pay was not proved, and the Bench declined to make an order; Goodman v the Equitable Insurance Company, was adjourned tiU February Bth.
