ALLEGED SMUGGLING AT DUNEDIN.

DUNEJDIN, January 24. The charges in connection, with the alleged smuggled tobacco seized recently at Oamaru came on at the Police Court today. Charles Witt, chief steward of the Ku&pehu, was charged with being concerned in unshipping 10001b of tobacco, and James McCormicK with having it in his possession. After being adjourned from the morning Mr Haggitt, who prosecuted, said that what he proposed to do was to adduce evidence in one case, and he would ask Mr Solomon to agree that the evidence should be used in the other case in which he appeared. He would also ask Mr Newton to agree to the evidence, if written, being used in another case against Christensen. The case against Witt was then proceeded with. Mr Holmes watched the proceedings on behalf of Ohristensen, against whom proceedings are pending. Evidence was given by Wni. Spindular, railway goods clerk, who produced the invoice of some cases of alleged dried fish. Kobert Milligan proved payment of freight of the cases consigned to Chris tensen by Alfred Smith, expressman. The latter gare evidence as to taking seven bags, apparently containing cases, to Christenseu's shop. The cases were then adjourned till sth lebruary.
