The date for closing the wool sales has been extended from the 29th January to 21st February. 255,000 bales are available. An unprecedented quantity has gone direct to the weaving districts. This circumstance is expected to affect the prospects of faulty and inferior merino.

London, January 24.

The money market is declining owing to an expected early reduction of the Bank rate. For three months bills 2 h per cent, is asked. The - American visible wheat supply is 36,625,000 bushels. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,468,000 quarters, and for the continent 376,000 quarters. The English wheat market is weak, the Continental depressed, and American inactive.

Potatoes are quoted at £10 to £11 per ton, Warrnambool £9 to £10 ; onions, New Zealand £10, Victorian £llj chaff, New Zealand £6 10s, Adelaide £7 15s; maize, 3s 6d to 3s 9d; oats 3s 6d to 3s 10d, milling 4s to 4s Id; bran Is, with market quiet; pollard, Is Id; wheat, chickfeed 3s 9d to 4s, milling New Zealand 4s 7d ; Cape barley, 3s. 9d to 4s; butter 6d to 9d, nominal and market glutted; cheese, 5d to 7d; bacon, 9d to IOd ; lard, best bladder 7d to Bd, bulk 4d to sd.
