FRANCE AND ENGLAND.
fPKR PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 Received January 21th, 11 a.m. Paris, January 22. In the Chamber of Deputies, Admiral Krantz, Minister of Marine, in reply to M. Treppel stated that the annexation of Penryhn Island (Tongawera) by England was not yet an accomplished fact. M. Treppel again complained of the administration, of affairs in the Pacific, and contended that the French interests in the New Hebrides had been sacrificed to the advantage of England, which country had made the most of French somnolence to retrieve the blunder in not previously securing the Islands in the Eastern Pacific. Received January 25th, 1.30 p.m. Lokdon, January 24. It is reported the inhabitants of the Coomoro Island Group, lying between Madagascar and the African mainland, are seeking British protection to avoid French aggression. Received January 25th, 1,30 a.m. Pabis, January 24. M. Goblet has discussed the Pacific question with Lord Lytton, British Ambassador at Paris, and instructed M. Waddington, French Ambassador at London, to approach Lord Salisbury with reference to the annexation of the Tahui Islands by England.
