The gear was foul, and instead of coming down in response to Burn's weight, it went up and lifted him several feet in the air. He was badly bruised, but the injuries are not considered serious.

Horticultubali SocTBTT. — Tentative arrangements have been made with Mr Donnolly, the enterprising proprietor of the Sink, for holding the coming Autumn show of the Society therein. There can be little doubt that the enterprise shown by the Society and Mr Donnolly will be fully appreciated by the public generally, and particularly by the many supporters of the Society. The Eink is in every particular highly suitable for a flcral exhibition. There is room in plenty, good light, the best of ventilation, and a total absence of anything deleterious to the most sensitive plant. Given such favorable conditions it is to be hoped that the several private gentlemen who are known to possess so many and rare kinds of exotic and other plants, and who have always extended their hearty assistance to the Society will at the forthcoming show give their very best assistance. To the profession the opportunity will be one without equal, so far as the chance of dis play is concerned; and a good display means a good advertisement, and a good advertisement means profit. An effort will also be made to induce the Fruit Growers' Association to join forces with the Horticultural Society, and Sβ, in one large exhibition, show what progress is being made. It is intended that the Exhibition shall extend over two days, and as the Society is extremely anxious to make it a great success—and further, so far as example will do, a love for flower and fruit culture—they intend to make an appeal to all interested to further to the best of their ability the success of the 'undertaking. To that end the energetic Secretary of the Society, Mr T. Gordon, is now working
