AVON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on the 2nd inst. Present—Messrs Blake (Chairman), King, Kowe, Swarm and Tutton. Messrs Fryer and Mclntyre waited on the Board with a petition from a large number of owners of sections on B.S 15836 *nd 16033, praying that the Board woold take the necessary steps to strike a special rate on the whole of such sections for the purpose of forming the several streets theseon. These gentlemen also handed in a lisfc pf owners who were willing to give a further sum towards the work over and above the amount of rate, wherewith it was decided to obtain other contributions in preference to striking a rate (the cost of co doing being large in proportion to the amount obtained) the Board giving a grant in aid of the work. .It was further resolved— That the Surveyor should prepare an estimate of forming George street. Messrs Walter, Kars, and others saw the Board relative to making road through Maraoland, handing in a letter from the Trustees of Messrs B, and G. Rhodes to the effect that they were willing to give the sum of JE7S towards the formation on certain conditions. Mr King, with the Surveyor, agreed to see the Trustees in the matter. Messrs Hopkins and Thompson and Rev. H. C. M. Watson interviewed the Board in reference to improvements being made on Free's road and opening upper road to the beach, when it was decided that others interested should be seen with a view of obtaining contributions towards the improvement on Free's road, the Board expressing its willingness to give a grant towards the work. tnat he would support the motion nowpending, re the amalgamation of some of the sub-drainage districts." From MrH. D. C. Jekyll, re dedication of a strip of land along the River road. Resolved that the dedication be accepted. From the SelwynCountyCouncilinreply, stating that the sum of £100 had bees granted towards the cost of the renewal of the Lower Styx Bridge. Resolved—That the Surveyor prepare plan and specification for consideration at the next meeting of the Board. From the Property Tax Commissioner, advising payment of 75 per cent, of the 1888 subsidy. The Clerk, was instructed to make inquiries regarding the same. Messrs Ryan and Carboy's tenders were accepted for supply of shingle for the York and Shirley roada; J. Wicks, supply of broken metal for New Brighton road : and J. McGrath, for formation of the River road. Minor matters having been dealt with, and accounts being Dassed for payment, the meeting terminated.
